Bedtime Stories
I put the little guy to bed last night. Adine mentioned that she had started to offer him choices a couple nights before, so I thought I would try to let him pick out his own bedtime stories.
I laid out a few of his favorite books in front of him. He grabbed the Good Night Bear book immediately. This is one that Grandma gave him, with a little bear on a string who goes from page to page, telling everyone good night before going to bed himself.
We ran through the whole book. He turned the pages for Dad, and when we got to the last page he opened up the bear's bed and closed it up after I put the bear inside.
So, then I put that book aside and got him to pick another.
No.
All of the books arrayed in front of him are boring. He HAS to have the one behind dad, with the bear in it.
So we read Good Night Bear again.
And then we read Good Night Bear.
And then we read Good Night Bear again.
I stopped trying to give him other options - we both knew what he wanted.
Eventually we called it a night, and one of us went to sleep.
I just love how interactive he's getting. Stuff like this. The other day for the first time, he grabbed my hand and pulled me over to help him play with something (he likes to sit on the air mattress and have Dad bounce him up into the air).
All very fun. Can't believe he will be 1 year old on Monday already.

Moral of the story is...for the next couple of years, don't buy any books you don't want to read over and over and over and over...
