Spidey

Carter & 2.0 are lucky to have a crime fighting superhero as a cousin. I know they will always be safe with big cousin Erik around!
Erik and Kirstin joined my cousin Tom at the Winnipeg Folk Fest this weekend, and by all accounts had a grand time. Seriously, to have your face painted like Spider Man, can anything be cooler?
I can only imagine this is why 2.0 spent a good portion of the weekend jumping around. It wanted to be at Folk Fest – and maybe it was (“Whales tales anyone?”) It was a busy, busy weekend for the baby. I think it may be redecorating - I am not sure whether to tell Carter or not that all his decorations and such are down.
Speaking of redecorating, we are in the process of getting closer and closer to having the house all ready for the baby to arrive. The crib is up - Alison, Al and Laura were in last weekend, and Ali tested the crib. Apparently we did a good job assembling it, because she was safe the whole time, and the bottom didn't fall out! Matt has also hung one door on the baby's room, and we will be getting started on hanging the rest this weekend when Amma and Papa come down. When I say "we", I of course mean Matt and my Dad! Mom and I will be sitting pretty sipping ice tea on the deck. Matt seems to be under the impression that the deck will be pressure washed this weekend, but this will seriously impede on my ice tea plan...
I will be posting pictures of the Ashers and their visit in the next day or so. I think it was good for Carter to celebrate Canada Day with some Canadians, plus shopping with Alison on Canada Day at Albertville can get no better (Carter snagged some good deals on t's and shoes!)
Carter continues to rampage into toddler hood. Along with being fiercely independent about what he wants to do, and how much help he gets doing it, we have seen an increase in the temper tantrums. Shrill, non-human screams can be heard from our house blocks away I am sure. A Little body sacrificing himself to the cold, hard floor in frustration and disappointment are a common occurrence. Somehow, the peace protesters of the 60's and 70's have taught my son how to make his body jelly upon being picked up so that when this tantrum is starting he is heavy, slack and impossible to move. I think this too shall pass, but dealing with this can be hilarious and trying all at the same time. Having a conversation while wiping tears from someone's face and stating, "It is not safe for you to stand on the chair with the Ginsu knives, that is why Mum took them away and took you off the chair." is something I never anticipated...like oh so many other things (baby puking back in my mouth...anyone?). Of course, this is paired with the fact that Carter is a little angle, and wickedly smart. Could you expect no less?
