Killer Bee
Carter, Nolen, Ant Jennette and I were hanging outside on the front driveway. Innocently enough, but a few bees decided to join us.
It was nap time anyway, so we decided to haul the kids inside. Just as we're walking away a large bee landed on the inside part of Carter's ear - needless to say, causing a great deal of panic in my small son.
Ant Jennette waved it away and I rushed the boys inside, not sure if Carter had been stung or not. ("bee hurt my ear! bee hurt my ear!")
I sat Nolen down on the floor and pulled Carter down on my lap so I could check out his ear. Dad was stung this summer, so he's familiar with the pain. Upon closer inspection though, Carter's ear was fine. He was only crying from the shock of a large buzzing insect trying to get into his head. I also noticed that we had missed a little bit of breakfast that had found it's way to his ear - a smear of blueberry from Mom's blueberry pancakes. Which might explain why a bee would want to land there.
During this whole episode, Nolen is sitting there looking at his brother with great concern. Could just see him trying to figure out why his favorite person in the whole world was crying so much. Eventually he toppled himself over, crawled over (army-style), and climbed up into Carter's lap. He lay his little head onto Carter's shoulder, to comfort him. Carter's crying slowed down as he put his arm around his little brother and said "tank you nolen". A few more little sniffs while they shared a hug, and the Killer Bee was forgotten.
