Nolen just participated in his first real Hallow'een, that he really understood what was going on. The "monster" parents that we are, Nolen and Carter did not go out on All Hallow's Even when Nolen was 8 weeks old (in 2006)(sorry for that-I'll explain why to your therapist...it might have had something to do with being overwhelmed and sleep deprived though!)
Nolen is a force. There is no other way to describe it. There are times when you pick Nolen up that you can feel him vibrating with intensity. We are lucky that this is coupled with an appreciation for being a "good boy" otherwise we would be in trouble (as parents). I say this because no one is going to tell Nolen what to do. No one can tell Nolen how to feel. Please do not even attempt to impose any agenda on him. When I was pregnant, I used to joke, "This is the most control I will ever have over these kids, I better enjoy it now!" I had no idea how right I was at the time.
We started out Hallow'een with trying on the costumes that we had spend almost 10 days making. There were the boxes we had picked out. There was the painting, and the painting to cover up the amazon logo that would just not go away, and oh yes, the painting. The kids loved painting their costumes. They were both characters from their favorite show,
Monster Trucks. Nolen was Junk Boy. After the main colours were on the costume, I spend about three hours painting faces and gluing the scoop on Nolen's costume, attaching the ribbon, and attaching Carter's Jose hose.
Here a list of
when Nolen actually wore his costume:
Fitting the costume at home 8:00 - 9:00 - refused to wear it...Carter had to so I could measure the string.
Music class @ 9:30 - refused to wear it...even though the other kids were
Going trick or treating 5:45 - wore it! YAY! After an explanation that he would not get candy otherwise.
At Uncle Corey and Anty Kate's House 6:30 - refused to wear it...but tricky Mom put a skeleton sweatshirt on underneath - so he was still wearing a costume.

Ty's BlogAll in all, Nolen is amazing. He is so different every day it seems. I am amazed at how much he talks. He has so much he wants to tell us, and I am always reminded at what he understands from everything we say. He is our baby, and he knows it. He can blend in and hide when he wants to learn, and he has no qualms about informing you that he is there and needs attention. Our little boy loves to hug, loves to kiss, loves to dance, loves to sing, hates fresh fruit and veggies (preferring the liquid and dried form instead). He is so passionate, I am overwhelmed by him-but in the best possible way.
He makes my heart burst.
