No picture as of yet (there is still a crib in Nolen's room, so it is a little crowded) but we made the switch to big boi bed this weekend. When Carter was ready for his big boi bed, he told us by climbing out and escaping any chance he got. We would be settled in nicely for the night, and we would look at the doorway of the basement to see a little imp staring quietly back at us. This was our sign (as new parents we still needed the ANVIL parenting technique) to get a bed he could crawl out of with ease. My parents will attest to the fact that the weekend we transferred Carter to his new bed was a painful one (they were visiting). The baby was up at all hours of the night (that's you Nolens!) and we had two baby gates up to keep Carter in his room. He mostly slept on the floor those first few nights, and I would dare say sleep took him, rather than his falling asleep so softly in his new big boi bed.
Last fall our neighbours were selling their youngest son's car bed after it had spent a few years in the basement. It seems the boys had a tough time giving up the bed, but the appeal of some quick cash was enticing for the then pre-teenaged bed owner. The bed was listed at $75.00, but like a good Winnipeger, I talked them down
and made them deliver the bed! Actually, they wouldn't let me pay full price for it - so we got a really good deal.
This is what the bed looks likeCarter has been so excited about his little brother's foray into big boi bed-world. Every few weeks since we had the bed delivered, he would ask Nolen, "Are you ready for your car bed?" to which Nolen would reply, "No, me not ready yet." Matt and I, of course, have been waiting for Nolen's escape from his crib - we weren't going to get caught buying a bed at the last minute again! HA -take that toddler!
Just before we left for Calgary Nolen told us he was ready for his car bed. While in Calgary he stayed sleeping in his bunk, alone in a room with Carter without escape. The test was as good as it was going to get.
We are on night two,
and:
-no bed escapes
-no falling out of bed
-stayed in bed all night, and
-stayed sleeping all night, AND
-waited until Matt got him this morning before he got out of his bed
So far, so good.
